Subject: National Competition Rules Update: What you need to know
Date: Tue, 14 Apr 2026 16:00:52 +0000

We wanted to let you know about a number of updates to the National Competition Rules (NCR), recently approved by the Motorsport UK Board in March 2026 and released in Edition 3 of the 2026 NCR.

These changes are designed to make things clearer, improve safety, and better reflect how the sport operates today.

Here’s a quick overview of what’s changed:

Race:

Clearer guidance on high-visibility clothing in the pit lane, plus updates to signal regulations, including provision for in-car marshalling systems.

Karting:

A simpler licence upgrade process, with Association of Racing Kart Schools novice driver course completion no longer counted as part of the signature criteria, and updated track limits penalties (moving from drive-through to a one-lap penalty).

Trials:

New requirements around fire extinguishers to enhance safety, clearer measurement standards, and more tailored passenger regulations for different trials events.

Judicial:

A small but important wording change to ensure penalties can be applied more consistently when instructions from officials aren’t followed.

Some updates come into effect from 14th April 2026, with others following from 1st January 2027.

We recommend taking a few minutes to review the latest version so you’re up to speed:
