The following is taken from the latest Clerks’ & Stewards’ Bulletin, please circulate to your club members.
Sprint & Hill Climb – Balaclavas
Following several fires across a range of motorsport disciplines, which resulted in burns, the Sprint & Hill Climb Sub-Committee reviewed all personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements during 2025. As a result of this review, a proposal was made to introduce a mandatory requirement for flame-resistant balaclavas for competitors in Modified, Sports Libre, and Racing Cars.
This proposal was approved by the Board in June 2025, following consultation, and came into effect on 1 January 2026. However, it appears that many competitors remain unaware of this change, and organisers are therefore encouraged to help promote awareness of the requirement.
Exemptions remain in place for Standard Cars, Road Cars, and open bodywork Period Defined Vehicles.
For full details, please refer to Chapter 14, Appendix 2, Article 4.3.
Sprint & Hill Climb – PPE
From 1 January 2027, Ch.14, App.2, Art. 4.3 will require competitors in Modified, Sports Libre, and Racing Cars to wear flame-resistant shoes in compliance with Chapter 9, Article 12.4.
Competitors in Standard Cars, Road Cars, and Period Defined Vehicles must wear suitable footwear that fully covers the foot and enables adequate control of the vehicle. The use of plastic footwear (such as trainers) should be avoided.
You are encouraged to ensure that competitors are made aware of these requirements ahead of 2027 so that they can be suitably prepared.

Please find attached a marshal request for the Bluestreak Targa Rally, organised by Spadeadam Motor Club. Entries for the event opened on Monday 18th May and there has been a lot of interest from competitors.
The Border Competitions Jim Clark Rally takes place this weekend, 22nd – 24th May. They are still in need of some marshalling assistance. Please could any volunteers contact the Chief Marshal Dean Pugh dean.pugh@me.com
There is also a list of other events that need marshalling assistance, and a list of event dates (that I am aware of).

Subject: Further Information – The Border Classic 2026
Good Afternoon,
Thank You for your entry for The Border Classic 2026.
Just a couple of updates ahead of the event.
Unlike previous years and as a result of our shorter route, there will be no lunch halt in this years route. We therefore recommend bringing enough refreshments to keep you going throughout your journey.
The finish & awards ceremony will be at 7 Lakes Country Park, Crowle. Food will be available from the onsite bar & restaurant should you wish to book a table.
Final instructions and Road Books will be sent in a separate email tomorrow morning. Please print these before joining us on Sunday. If you require a printed version, please request this as soon as possible as we will not have printing facilities with us at the start.
If you know of anyone who may wish to run at the event, we still have entries available, please point them in our direction!

The Border Classic 2026
See below for proposed Regulation changes from Motorsport UK.
The link goes to a page of the proposed changes from meetings of various Motorsport UK Specialist Committees in March and April.
Of interest to rally competitors will be the proposed Regulation from the April Rallies Committee meeting:
12.15 It is mandatory for an operational FIA Impact Data Recorder (IDR) to be fitted to all Vehicles. IDRs must be installed and operated in accordance with the manufacturers’ instructions. Each IDR must be uniquely assigned to, and used only in, the individual Vehicle in which it is installed.
If you wish to make any comments on this, the consultation period ends on 8th June. If approved, the Regulation will take effect on 1sty January 2027.
The cost of an IDR will be £32.

Subject: An invitation from East Yorkshire Lotus Owners Club
Please see below. The event is on May 16th.
I would like to invite you and fellow members of your club to a gathering that we are holding at the Nags Head Routh HU17 9SL.
The Nags Head is our club meeting venue. There is a large car park. As well as the drink and food available in the pub the manager is trying to organise a Marque for the car park to also provide some additional catering..
The event is from 12.00hrs, there are no charges. We decided that to try and help the venue out as the pub trade is struggling at the moment. The manager is very accommodating to our club and is keen on cars and motoring.
